An Great Afternoon spent Drumming in Inch.

As soon as I saw the Drum Dance Ireland “Play and Workshop Event” on Facebook last month I decided straight away that I would be going. Having attended a weekend workshop of theirs last year, it was only a matter of time before I would be going again. I still remember the feeling of Well-Being that the Weekend had catapulted me into.

The Afternoon of Drumming did not fail to impress. It started out with a gorgeous drive there, from Tralee to Inch. and the great company of a friend. The first drumming session involved learning some very old traditional rhythms, which leave you with no alternative but to be in the present moment. A very grounding experience.

Having worked up an appetite we were then treated to some very delicious sandwich’s and homemade hummus. Lunch also provided the opportunity to chat with some of the other attendee’s, all of whom were very friendly 🙂 The Laughter Yoga session led by Eoin Shaw after lunch, most certainly loosened and lightened everyone up.

My favorite session of the day was the Free Play drum session at the end. The session allowed you to create your own rhythm and beat and alternate between different instruments as you like. I found myself going into a very relaxed , almost trance-like state during this session.

At the the end of the afternoon, we were greeted by the sun setting over the gorgeous Dingle Peninsula. Although there had not been a lot of conversation among the attendees there was a definite bond created from our unified experience, and a sense that we had gotten to know each other.
